Tallinn in search for young mentors

Tallinn is inviting young people to join the Future Mentors programme to help shape a sustainable future for Tallinn. One of the young mentors will also have the opportunity to be part of Tallinn’s delegation to the annual meeting of Eurocities, Europe’s largest network of cities, in Espoo this June.

The annual meeting of Eurocities will take place in Espoo, Finland, on 8-10 June, and it will focus on the cities’ bold ideas and ambitions for the future and ways to achieve them. In 2022 – the European Year of Youth – Espoo is launching a programme of Mentors for the Future for Eurocities mayors. In this framework, mayors will meet young mentors selected from their cities to listen to their dreams, expectations and fears about the future.

The aim of the programme is to provide the youth an opportunity to engage in dialogue with their city leaders and to increase their involvement in decisions about the future of their city, so that together they can contribute to its development. It also aims to bridge the gap between city leaders and young people, in particular on climate change and sustainable development.

The mentorship programme is being developed by the City of Espoo together with the Eurocities network and will take place in early June, ahead of the Eurocities 2022 annual meeting. One of the young mentors will have the opportunity to travel to Espoo with the delegation from their city from 8 to 10 June.

The Future Mentors programme is open to young people aged 18-25 who are not members of a city council or parliament, have good written and spoken English, are interested in the future of the city and making a difference, are willing to participate in at least three meetings with other young people and a politician representing the city this spring, and are willing to participate in online discussions with mentors from other cities on 28-31 March.

To apply, young people are invited to submit an application form, a CV and a motivation letter (one A4 in English) on the topic “How to adapt to climate change and move towards a sustainable future?” no later than 28.02.2022 at 12.00 by email to nooredliidrid@tallinnlv.ee.

Last November, at the annual meeting of the Eurocities, Tallinn was re-elected for the second time to the organisation’s 12-member board.

Eurocities was founded in 1986 with the aim of strengthening the role of local authorities in European development and influencing EU legislation to better protect the cities’ interests. It brings together 205 European cities with a population of at least 250 000. Tallinn has been a full member of Eurocities since 1998.
