During the autumn collection rounds, city residents brought in over 23 tons of hazardous waste.

During the last two weekends of October, city residents handed over more than 23,930.90 kg of hazardous waste and 107 cubic meters of usable items. Household hazardous waste can be handed over free of charge throughout the year at six hazardous waste collection points across the city and at four waste stations.

“Every spring and autumn, hazardous waste and usable item collection rounds take place in Tallinn’s districts, where collection vehicles stop at specific locations for a set period. People take advantage of this convenient opportunity to bring their hazardous waste and leftover usable items to the collection points,” noted Tallinn Deputy Mayor Joosep Vimm. “During the spring, over 25 tons of hazardous waste were brought in, and now it’s over 23 tons. However, during the spring collection rounds, 1305 visitors brought their hazardous waste, and during the autumn collection rounds, 1498. Thus, it can be joyfully noted that city residents are increasingly participating in our collection rounds.”

In total, 1,498 Tallinn residents brought hazardous waste to the collection rounds. The majority of hazardous waste was brought in Lasnamäe, North Tallinn, and Haabersti districts. The most common items handed over were paint, varnish, and glue waste (13,687 kg), screens and displays (2,185 kg), and larger electronic devices (2,431 kg).

A total of 854 Tallinn residents donated usable items. The most donations were made in Nõmme and North Tallinn districts, and mainly books and clothes were brought. All usable items were handed over to the ReUse Centre, which directs the items to reuse.

Hazardous waste can be handed over year-round at Tallinn’s six hazardous waste collection points, located in the city center at Wismari 13 parking lot and Väike-Rannavärav 6 parking lot, in Lasnamäe at Pae 19 and Narva mnt 150 opposite the bus stop, in Haabersti at Haabersti 2, Haabersti street T1 property parking lot, and in Mustamäe at Kadaka tee 76f parking lot. Collection points are open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 15:00 and closed on public holidays. Hazardous waste can also be handed over at Tallinn waste stations in Pärnamäe, Rahumäe, Pääsküla, and Paljassaare.

Usable clothes, shoes, and toys can be taken to red and green containers located throughout the city every day. In cooperation with Humana Sorteerimiskeskus OÜ and the NGO Riidepunkt, the items collected in the containers go for sorting and then into circulation. The locations of the containers can be found on Tallinn’s web map or on the Kuhuviia website. Other usable items (books, dishes, accessories, sports equipment, etc.) can be taken to the Paljassaare waste station’s reuse room and to NGO Uuskasutuskeskus stores and collection points, which are listed on the NGO Uuskasutuskeskus website.
