Health of the Baltic Sea. Theme day in the Palm House conference hall and classroom
Helen Orav – Kotta, UT Estonian Marine Institute, associate professor of marine biology
On the Baltic Sea theme day, the biodiversity of the Baltic Sea will be discussed in more detail, and in a slightly more playful way. In the classroom, they will talk about how humans have affected the sea with their activities and what each of us can do to be more environmentally aware.
Programme:
12.00 – 13.30 The sea around Estonia.
The classroom consists of a short lecture on the biodiversity of the Baltic Sea and an environmental game where participants can think and discuss how they are connected to the Baltic Sea.
14.00 – 15.30 The Baltic Sea and man.
The problems of the Baltic Sea are eutrophication (too many nutrients from agriculture) and environmental toxins from human activities. In the classroom, they will talk about how humans have affected the sea with their activities and what everyone can do to be more environmentally aware. A short lecture will be followed by a practical workshop where household cleaning products and natural fertilizer for home potted flowers will be prepared.
The event is part of the special program of the European Green Capital in the Botanical Garden.
NB! Visitors can participate in events with an entrance ticket to the botanical garden.
