Theme day in the palm house conference hall: Weather and climate
- The frustration of environmental problems
Mihkel Kangur, TU senior researcher, education and development manager of Rakvere State High School
The changes taking place in the environment that contains us and the global ecosystem are complex and complex in nature. This makes them difficult to understand, but also difficult to solve. The presentation discusses the most important environmental challenges as well as their thwarted nature and shows why their solution has turned out to be so difficult. If we can’t solve them, we can at least try to govern them. What opportunities we have for this will be discussed with the listeners.
- About the weather and its prediction
Helve Meitern, chief forecaster of the weather forecasts department of the Estonian Weather Service
What is the difference between weather, weather and climate? Why do we talk about the weather so much? How is the weather predicted and what helps forecasters predict the weather? How far in advance can you predict the weather? Why do we need forecasters when the internet is full of weather forecasts? The forecaster will help you find the answers to these questions.
- From the rainforest to desert
Weather observations and trips through different climate zones and nature zones are conducted by Krista Kaur, the botanic garden’s methodologist.
On the theme day, a small weather station in the botanical garden will be explored, simpler weather observations will also be made: air temperature, air humidity, air pressure, wind direction, wind strength, etc. will be measured. In the greenhouses of the botanical garden, you can learn about plants growing in different natural zones and their adaptations.
The event is part of the special program of the European Green Capital in the Botanical Garden.
NB! Visitors can participate in events with an entrance ticket to the botanical garden.
