Large waste dropped off at stations nearly 1500 times during campaign week
During the first large waste collection campaign of the year, which took place from March 18 to 24, nearly 1,355 cubic meters of large waste were brought to Tallinn’s waste stations.
Deputy Mayor Joosep Vimm was pleased with the results of the first campaign week. “Throughout the week, the city’s waste stations received nearly 1,500 large waste drop-offs. The busiest days were Saturday and Sunday, accounting for about half of all visits for the week and bringing in 40% of the large waste accepted during the campaign. Every resident’s contribution is crucial for maintaining a clean environment in Tallinn. We strive to make environmentally friendly choices as convenient as possible for citizens. The next campaign will be in May, and there will also be collection rounds for hazardous waste and reusable items,” Vimm explained.
The free large waste collection campaign occurs quarterly, but Tallinn residents can bring various recyclable waste to waste stations year-round.
Residents can drop off an unlimited amount of old paper and cardboard, packaging, cooking oil and fat, scrap metal, complete electrical and electronic equipment, and usable furniture for free (the condition of the furniture is determined by the waste station operator).
Limited amounts of the following can be dropped off for free at once: up to six 100-liter bags of household biodegradable garden and landscaping waste; up to six 100-liter bags of usable clothing; one cubic meter of untreated wood; one cubic meter of marked plastic waste; up to eight rimless old tires; one cubic meter of concrete; one cubic meter of pre-sorted bricks; one cubic meter of pre-sorted tiles and ceramic products; one cubic meter of sheet glass; and certain amounts of various hazardous wastes. Other types of waste and quantities exceeding these limits can be disposed of according to the waste station’s price list.
Waste stations are located at Pääsküla (Raba Street 40), Rahumäe (Rahumäe tee 5a), Pärnamäe (Ristaia tee 8), and Paljassaare (Paljassaare põik 5). Opening hours for waste stations and information on disposing of all other types of waste can be found on website at www.tallinn.ee/en/keskkond/waste-treatment-plants-tallinn.
The next large waste campaign will take place from May 6 to 12. At other times, large waste collection can be arranged through the waste collection company serving the area, and fees are based on the price list. For more information, visit www.tallinn.ee/en/services/door-door-waste-collection.
