December 2023

On 15 December, we organised a cross-department group meeting to discuss different ideas coming from the Tallinn European Green Capital year 2023 and the new URBACT network of cities focusing on sustainability governance.

Connecting from Paris, UN Talent Management and Diversity and Inclusion expert Pina Roos presented the UN Values and Behaviours framework, inspiring how to shape organisational culture for sustainability.

She highlighted the importance of having clear definitions of values relevant to the specific organisation, and how differentiating responsibilities between categories of staff can help to clarify how the values apply to different roles. Another important insight was about the need to look at the organisation’s potential skills gaps vis-à-vis the UN SDGs and decide whether some job descriptions can be updated, and people trained to fill such gaps. In Tallinn, four organisational values – courage, openness, collaboration and kindness – are currently being rolled out to support the implementation of the Tallinn 2035 sustainable development strategy.
