New repair workshop to open today in Pääsküla waste treatment plant

Tallinn Waste Centre and MTÜ Information Centre for Sustainable Renovation are opening a repair workshop in Pääsküla waste treatment plant today, where customers can repair various items which require welding, riveting, gluing, soldering or other means of repair under the direction of skilled masters.

According to Deputy Mayor Joosep Vimm, Tallinn’s goal in this is to create more repair opportunities for city residents. “Existing workshops and repair opportunities have been very popular among Tallinn residents,” said Vimm. “When we repair existing things, we save both money and natural resources. Under the direction of skilled masters, anyone can rest assured that they are using tools and techniques correctly and extending the life of their possessions in need of repair.”

Pääsküla repair workshop is open every Tuesday and Wednesday from 15:00 to 20:00. Additionally, there are plans to conduct themed activities at the workshop.

All those interested can make use of the repair workshop along with its devices and fittings twice a week, including the drill press, grindstones, disc sander, welding devices, metal cutting tools and hand tools.

The workshop master and long-time restorer Vallo Varik shares his knowledge on materials, preparation, safe handling of work devices as well as restoration, maintenance and work techniques.

The creation of the workshop is supported by the Environmental Investment Centre using funds from the European Economic Area for the project “Transformation of waste treatment plants into circular economy centres to promote reuse and create repair workshops”.
