Spotlight on Tallinn

January-April 2024

In Tallinn we are working on developing a framework for Sustainability Governance, where we propose a system of processes and relationships that help us build consensus, develop policies, and facilitate skills and enthusiasm to achieve environmental, social and economic sustainability as set in the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Recently, we are advancing on building organisational culture and mindset for sustainability in the city organisation by organising quarterly workshops with Tallinn’s communication officers and drafting a strategic communication plan.

In addition, we have several practical tools in the pipeline that aim to help city officials to implement the principles of sustainability government in their day-to-day work.

Working with experts from Civitta, some of the focus topics for 2024 are:

  • Developing a checklist for adjusting ongoing processes to incorporate sustainability governance considerations.
  • A tool for ex-ante impact assessment, which will aim to support decision-makers to better understand the plausible impacts of different policy options.

These are set to be completed just in time for the next newsletter, so stay tuned!

If you are interested in exchanging more in-depth about these processes and tools, please reach out to our International Peer Learning Hub coordinator Stina.Heikkila@tallinnlv.ee – we are planning a small peer exchange session to explore different strategic planning models during late August or early September 2024.
