In the years 2022-2024, the educational program “Prevention and reduction of waste generation, reuse and recycling, and formation of the habit of collecting waste by type” will run, during which children will color environmental pictures and solve environmental tasks and puzzles.

The aim is to raise environmental awareness by teaching children age-appropriate waste prevention, waste collection by type and the basics of circular economy, including introducing the problem of marine litter and ways to prevent and reduce it.

The target group is kindergarten children aged 5-7 years and students of the 1st school level (1st-3rd grade).

Since 2001, the city of Tallinn has carried out information on the topic of environmentally sustainable consumption and waste collection, including the sustainable consumption campaign Prügihunt (Garbage Wolf), during which the focus is primarily on raising children’s environmental awareness.

The immediate result is a general increase in environmental awareness among children, young people and their parents, i.e. society, through which the overall reduction of waste generation and increase in recycling is influenced.
