A forest trip marking the beginning of the green capital and the year of movement
Starts at Estonia pst 8, Tallinn Central Library lobby at 12 o’clock or join at 12:35 at the Rehe stop.

In connection with the year of movement and the beginning of the year of the green capital, we are going on a small trip to Hõbemetsa area! We will talk about why we need to move in nature and what it gives us, we will enjoy the winter forest and get acquainted with the ammunition warehouses of the sea fortress of Peter the Great, which are over 100 years old. They are located in the Haaberst district, on the mighty limestone belt of the Astang settlement. As the tunnel warehouses of Astangu are a wintering place for bats, we will not go inside, but observe the tunnels from the entrance.

The trip lasts approximately 1.5 hours, the length of the journey is 2 km. Please wear comfortable and warm clothes and weatherproof shoes.

Sprout growing workshop with Urban Farm
At 13:00-16:00

The number of places is limited, and pre-registration is required.

How can you grow tasty and healthy food even in winter? We are talking about green technologies and the startup Urban Farm.
In the shoot growing workshop, we introduce the various possibilities of year-round urban gardening and share practical skills that everyone can apply in their everyday life. Growing sprouts does not take a lot of space or time, so anyone who wants to see healthy and locally grown food on their table even in winter can do it.
Let’s learn together how to add green colour to your food table by growing sprouts, thereby alleviating the restlessness of green fingers waiting for spring. In the practical part, each participant can try preparing sprouts (we use a starter set for sprouting that participants can take home).

What are sprouts?
Shoots are young seedlings of edible vegetables and herbs harvested less than two weeks after germination. The shoot is not overgrown with sprouts. The difference in their cultivation is that the sprouts are grown without soil just on the basis of moisture and in the dark, but the shoots grow in soil and in light.
Urban Farm is an environmentally friendly and climate-controlled urban farm whose passion is growing beautiful and vigorous plants and creating ideal growth conditions even in winter. https://www.facebook.com/LINNAFARM/

Lecture “Nature and mental health”
At  11:00

We are moving in a direction with our development that we haven’t even had time to think about. We live in an era
• where we spend 95% of our time indoors,
• our children spend less time outside than our prisoners,
• nature has remained distant and alien to us – if we have time, we visit nature, but is that enough?

At the same time, research shows that we need the natural environment with its wonderful views, fresh air, different landscapes, rushing rivers and roaring forests to keep us mentally balanced.

We are looking for answers to the following questions:
• What is nature for us?
• What effect does nature have on a person’s mental health?
• What is my own relationship with nature?
• What does research show?
• What is nature’s effect on depression and anxiety?

The lecture is conducted by psychologist and educator Kristi Raava.

There may be changes in the schedule, more information can be found on the Tallinn Central Library website https://keskraamatokogu.ee/ or on Facebook of the Tallinn Central Library.

The city of Tallinn will hold the title of European Green Capital in 2023 and wants to get all citizens to think about environmental issues as well. A sustainable way of thinking improves the quality of life for all of us. We want to show how the city develops and adapts to the changes taking place in the world, and help city residents to better understand why it is necessary to preserve the living environment and how they themselves can better contribute to environmental protection.
