Tallinn participates in the UN Climate Change Conference COP28
Tallinn, the European Green Capital 2023, is participating this week as the official partner of the Estonian delegation in the UN Climate Change Conference COP28. This provides an opportunity to showcase what the Estonian capital has already achieved in sustainability and share its experiences with other cities and countries. On Wednesday, December 6th, Tallinn has organized a program in the Estonian pavilion titled “Wild Cities: Urban innovation and Sustainability.
One of Tallinn’s goals as the green capital this year is to bring more green technologies and innovation to the city. Since numerous companies and research institutions engaged in green technology are participating in COP28, this is a good opportunity to introduce Tallinn’s activities, including the European Green Capital year flagship project Test in Tallinn.
“The European Union is one of the most ambitious participants in the meeting, and Tallinn, as this year’s European Green Capital, is the spokesperson for European ambitions,” said Deputy Mayor Joosep Vimm.
He added that on December 6th, Tallinn will host a day at the Estonian pavilion, involving international organizations such as the OECD, the European Commission, ICLEI Europe, as well as various Tallinn-based companies and universities such as Utilitas, TalTech, and Tallinn University, providing an opportunity to share achievements.
The topics discussed on Tallinn’s day include sustainable city governance, coping with climate change, energy efficiency, and the concept of a 15-minute city. The discussion on Rail Baltica and promoting the sustainable future of transportation will be joined by the Chancellor of the Ministry of Climate of the Republic of Estonia, and the transport ministers of Latvia and Lithuania.
